Relating to my Meco model, the mesh upper layer of the fire grate/ash pan is removable from the lower basin. Basically slide the mesh to 1 side of the basin until the edge of the mesh at the opposite side is totally free of the basin’s retaining groove. Then just lift the mesh away from the basin.
