As I continue to make much more projects out of wood, I find that I rely on my bandsaw for additional and much more of them. The bandsaw is wonderful for cutting curves, resawing wood and for cutting blanks for woodturning. The bandsaw is extremely versitile and comes in useful for quite a few projects but it does have one key drawback, SAWDUST!
The more your band saw blade wanders, the additional thickness you will need to have. The critical point is to reduce this wandering and there are 5 approaches to do this: (1) blade tension (maximum recommended to preserve the blade from flexing), (2) blade width (the wider, the superior for stiffness), (three) blade kind (developed specifically for resawing), (four) motor power (to drive the blade through the wood with no bogging down) and (five) blade guides (the far more blade control, the improved).

As with all shop tools there are procedures that if followed will extend the life of both your band saw and the cutting blade. Right tension, feed stress, standard cleaning, and lubrication are all required to get the most from this tool.
Olson Flex Back Bandsaw Blades are a reduce above regular flex back carbon blades! Specific heat therapy produces a blade with an extremely challenging cutting edge and a spring-tempered back for improved tensile strength. This permits greater tension, enhanced blade rigidity, and straighter, much more accurate cuts. All Olson Flex Back blades are produced with alternate bevel teeth and one raker tooth. Raker set: left, appropriate, straight (raker) pattern. The skip tooths 0º rake angle is greatest for softer woods. An all purpose blade, outstanding for resawing!

Although the cutawl employed to be the closes factor to correct 360 degree cutting, (and 1 of my preferred tools ever)the Rotozip spiral saw truly carved a new path for sawing. Although it can not accomplish the tight square corners that a scroll saw or a cutawl can, it can reduce in any direction. When I suppose that you could obtain this with cnc routers and hand routers, the spiral bit tends to make it far more suitable.
